Understanding Receptive Skills – Week 17 Reflection
This week, we focused on receptive skills, which are the skills we use to receive and understand language, specifically through listening and reading. Two abilities that are key factors when we learn English because they help students process information before they can speak or write. One interesting discussion we had was about test formats. For example: multiple-choice questions easier, open-ended answers. We also looked at teaching strategies to make listening and reading more effective and enjoyable. Some ideas were using group work, dramatizations, reading groups, or asking students to summarize what they understood. These methods keep students engaged and help them develop comprehension naturally. Lastly, we talked about differentiated instruction, which means adjusting our lessons to meet each student’s level.
